Alice Bencivenni, Progetti di riforme costituzionali nelle epigrafi greche dei secoli IV-II a.C. (Tarsie 1), Lo Scarabeo, Bologna 2003. |
This volume is the first of a new series: Tarsie, scritti di Antichistica, directed by Lucia Criscuolo and Giovanni Geraci.
Just as the art which connects tesserae of different forms and materials in order to form a complete pattern, the series "Tarsie" hosts studies, which analyze, reconstruct and define the many sided aspects of classical civilizations, both in monographs and miscellaneous contributions.
This representative selection of Hellenistic inscriptions, covering the centuries IV-II B.C., testifies to the continuous political activity of the Greek cities even in an age when Macedonian monarchs tried to curtail their autonomy and independence. The documents show the active and dynamic role of the communities in their acceptance, discussion, modification, and at times even solicitation of constitutional reform projects proposed or imposed by Kings or by their representatives. This work, outlining the means and the qualities of the reform projects and explaining the documental typologies as well as the diplomatic forms upon which they have been elaborated and acted, confirms the typical Greek tendency to plan civic organization.
Alice Bencivenni received her PhD at the University of Bologna in 2001.
Her principal research topics are Greek epigraphy and antiquities with particular attention to juridical and institutional problems.
